Sports as a future option – with Jamie Peacock

Event : Sports as a future option – with Jamie Peacock

What an amazing day!  It’s Thursday 14th September 2017 and we have been working with 50 KS5 students from across our NCOP schools and colleges to introduce them to a life of sport and how to succeed in this field as a career choice.

Hosted by Leeds Trinity University, our NCOP students experienced a sports taster day where students learnt first hand what it is like to study a sports degree, hearing from current students and alumni about where a degree in sports can take them.

With a £2.2 million sports and fitness centre, young people had the opportunity of experiencing the latest equipment and excellent teaching found on sports courses, of the practical support to help access sports and related courses, through personal statement workshops and the opportunity to meet current students balancing competition with studies.

In addition, Leeds Trinity University students Cameron Corbishley and Charlotte Booth talked about balancing their studies with competing at an elite level in their sport and Leeds Trinity alumni Lizzy Campbell, who now works for British Gymnastics, shared her experiences of working in sport development. Inspiration and enthusiasm was also delivered through keynote speakers, John Jones Durrant and Jamie Peacock.

This was an overwhelmingly positive experience for the young people involved and the feedback that came back from the schools and colleges that attended was fantastic.

The kids from my school had an absolutely amazing time and loved every minute. The director of rugby said they came back ‘buzzing,’”  – Higher Education Progression Officer, Rodillian Academy.

The speakers were fantastic, motivating and so engaging,’  – Higher Education Progression Officer, Elliott Hudson Sixth Form College.

Young people had the opportunity and options in their field of interest opened up to them in a engaging and memorable way and the messages around what is available in a Higher Education setting for Sports came through as well as how to access these opportunities.
