GHWY Area Manager (Project) – Wakefield and Bradford

After studying French at the University of Birmingham, I spent my first years after graduation teaching English in France and Italy and working in recruitment. I then went onto complete further qualifications including Post Graduate Diploma and Masters In Careers Guidance. This led me to work for the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) for 11 years managing careers, employment and skills projects where I learnt a lot about skill strategy, engaging with industry and careers. I started at Go Higher West Yorkshire in 2017 as Area Manager to work on the Uni Connect Programme. I have loved watching the programme grow and seeing how it has supported young people to realise their potential. We manage a team of Progression Officers who work in schools and colleges around West Yorkshire, also focusing on underrepresented groups in HE.

Our officers co-ordinate and deliver a programme of activity to support targeted learners in Higher Education.

We also approve funding for Uni Connect Activity and develop processes/documents to support project outcomes.

Stakeholder engagement is also a key part of our role, working with key influencers e.g. Leeds City Region LEP, local authorities, to encourage collaborative working and joined-up thinking.
