We are here to help students access and prepare for Higher Education in West Yorkshire.
Here you’ll find events such as open days, help choosing a course, and tips on application writing. We also provide advice on student finance, living away from home and insight into what to expect from Higher Education.
Don’t think that Higher Education is for you? Read our Myth Buster guide to clear up any misconceptions about further study.
The role of teachers, advisors, parents, carers and guardians is crucial in supporting students and potential students to access Higher Education. Whether supporting someone by raising attainment, helping them to make informed choices, or by providing practical information and guidance, Go Higher West Yorkshire can help.
We’ve compiled a list of resources, including lesson plans, videos, links to useful websites, quizzes and other activities, to help support learners’ attainment and aspirations, inform their choices about courses and careers, and to guide them through the application process and other practical issues on their journey to Higher Education.
If you would like to arrange a visit to your school, or require information about an event, contact the Go Higher West Yorkshire team.
The journey started in schools, colleges and universities, doesn’t end at graduation.
Exposure to the world of work is key to developing employability skills and securing a job.
That’s why we work collaboratively with employers and industry experts, supporting our partners to equip their students for the changing economy.
A rather belated Happy and Prosperous New Year to all our followers.
We enter 2014 with a real sense of optimism with the economy showing genuine signs of sustained and sustainable recovery regionally, nationally and internationally. A number of the businesses that we are working with on a regular basis are indicating they have more confidence in investing in business developments and in up-skilling their current staff and recruiting newly qualified staff to contribute to this. This is clearly echoed nationally in the Association of Graduate Recruiters statement advising that their business members are reporting substantially increased graduate recruitment targets this year. All the evidence points to higher level skilled jobs being the driver for the economy and leading to stronger employment at all levels.
We would therefore like to ask you a question – what are your plans for growth this year and how will you ensure you have the right skills available to make this a success?
We have been delighted with recent support from a number of our Higher Level Skills Ambassadors who have brought forward student placement opportunities and major projects for students to work on. Such links naturally offer the students fantastic real work experience but equally their fresh eyes and approaches can make a significant impact on development of the business.
Could you offer a placement, internship or project for students to undertake? If so do please get in touch and we will support you in finding the right students.
We have also had offers for mentoring students, linking employees with students to support them in developing ‘work ready’ skills and equally offering the employees opportunity to enhance their mentoring and communication skills.
Our partners continue to develop bespoke courses matched to business need alongside a range of off the shelf training courses. Add to this the growing presence of the free Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) provision such as that presented on the Future Learn platform and our partners are really making huge efforts to offer training matched to specific business need or open access provision that may support individual development. If you are unsure of where to start in accessing what you need then please get in touch and we will endeavour to point you in the right direction.
We wish you not only a Happy and Prosperous New year but a Highly Skilled one too.
