Go Higher in Healthcare!

A group of 30 Year 10 Level 2 students from Appleton Academy have been putting their research skills to the test by exploring pathways into careers in the healthcare sector.

Go Higher West Yorkshire recently released a student-friendly guide to help navigate the varied careers and job roles within the healthcare sector.  We are pleased to see how a group of year 10 students at Appleton Academy have been using the booklet to help with their research.

Tasked with using the guide to help them, groups of students have produced some amazing posters of their research including careers such as Doctors, Midwifery and exploring types of Psychological Therapists!

Students have researched not only the type of career but also important factors such as entry requirements and where they can study related degree courses locally. Many of the Higher Education institutions across the West Yorkshire region offer many degree courses relating to healthcare professions.

Entry requirements aren’t just about qualifications either – transferable skills such as problem solving, communication and teamwork are all important when considering different career paths to help students find the best sectors to suit them. Carrying out research such as this helps to show students the different skills required within various careers and help them start to think how they currently develop these skills at school and college.

At Go Higher West Yorkshire we know the importance of researching progression pathways for current school students, and the powerful influence that researching careers information early can have on making future decisions. Having a toolkit for sessions like these is the perfect stepping on point for students of various levels, allowing them to gather information but to also allow them to go that step closer to degree level study, research themselves across various mediums and tailor the results to suit their individual situations.

Keep up the great work guys!
