Go Higher West Yorkshire (GHWY) is partnering with the charity Stand Alone to promote the Estranged Students Solidarity Campaign (ESSC) Week: 26 – 30 November 2018.

Our aims are to:

  • Raise awareness about family estrangement, and the many barriers to success that estranged students face in Higher Education through an awareness campaign
  • Encourage estranged students at GHWY Partner institutions to self-identify as ‘estranged’ or ‘studying without the support of a family network’ and to understand who they can contact in their institution regarding possible additional support

To achieve these, GHWY and its Partners will:

  • Raise awareness about ESSC Week through social media activity using #WithEstrangedStudents during 26 – 30 November
  • Disseminate informative Postcards aimed at staff, providing them with some key information about estrangement, and how they may support estranged students at their institutions (including signposting to relevant student support services contacts)
  • Prepare Posters that will be hung around various buildings throughout the week, informing students of relevant contacts within their institutions who are able to advise/signpost regarding issues surrounding estrangement
  • Various other activities at selected institutions such as coffee mornings, targeted drop-in sessions, and more
