Supporting adult learners from disadvantaged backgrounds into Higher Education

New research published in ‘Widening Participation and Lifelong Learning’ considers the potential barriers that are faced by adult learners from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Set within the context of the Office for Students (OfS) placing such learners within five priority areas for which HE providers should allocate resources to enable access and success, it makes a number of recommendations for the support that should be offered.

These include adopting a more personalised approach to supporting adult learners into and through HE, and recognising the susceptibility of such learners to particular circumstances that may impact on their mental health.
