Go Higher West Yorkshire have teamed up with Rhubarb Radio in Wakefield to create and deliver the ‘From Here to There’ radio show. The third episodes’ clips are embedded into this blog entry. This third episode includes conversations with:
Ray Henshaw. Principal of Minsthorpe Community College. Ray spoke about the work that Minsthorpe Community College has done in partnership with Go Higher West Yorkshire, and about the Progression Module, which is a year-long structured programme, which aims to support students in Year 12 in their preparation for both Higher Education and employment.
The Module is delivered by tutors within schools and colleges with support given by Leeds Beckett University. There are currently over 2000 students enrolled from 34 schools who are taking part in the programme.
As with many of our guests thus far, Ray shared some of his educational experience about how he went from being a student in Portsmouth to a principal in Minsthorpe.
The show also includes a conversation with Sian Bex. Sian is the Outreach Officer for Kirklees College. She shared some fascinating information about an upcoming event she has organised called Springboard.
It is an evening for young people with SEND (special education needs and disability), their families and relevant education/careers/community professionals. This event will aim to provide information about University and the support available to students. The event will most benefit students between Year 9 and Year 13 or at college.
Sian was also generous enough to share some of her journey through life, school, Higher Education and her career.
We hope you enjoy these conversations. Please find supporting links to everything discussed below.
Keep your eyes peeled and your ears pricked, as our next episode will be coming soon!
As ever, thanks for listening, Tom Senior (GHWY/NCOP/LBU Outreach Officer)
